'I love the ballad in print a life, for then we are sure they are true' Shakespeare.

If it is print then it is seen to be true.
It is correct. It is factual.
Print standardizes information.

Documentation. Communication. Reproduction.
It is correct. It is factual.

Earliest Print;
  • This is the earliest print, it is using the print making technique is woodcut, which is also the earliest printmaking technique.
  • From 200AD.
  • Print using chalk - coal - oil.
In 1400AD Europe started to use these printing techniques, this means that it took 1200 years to get this printing technique to travel to Europe. Now-a-days information from oversees takes very little time to spread news it is more immediate, this is how the world has developed in time.

Communication. Reproduction. Distribution.
It is correct. It is factual.

Knowledge is Power!

Mass Communication;
The first moveable type was produced in Asia in 1000AD. Asia was ruling print by 1450AD.

  • Changed so much through time.
  • Incredible how much it has developed.
  • Comes from religion - people have something they want to print and a message to send.
Gutenberg's press changed the world from being a verbal culture to being a visual culture.

Marshall Mcluhan;
  • 'The Medium is the Message'
  • McLuhan predicted the world wide web 30 years before it started being developed.

Lino Type;
  • Lino type revolutionised the way of printing.
  • Don't have to worry about spacing anymore.
  • Everything was replaced by a computer, therefore the craftsman became redundant.

This is an example of the first etching done, it was fueled by religious themes.
